HOW I STARTED IN PHOTOGRAPHY

In this post I will talk about how I started in photography.

I want to make it clear right from the start that each person has their time. We should not rely on other people’s experiences to compare with ours.

I have always been a technology person and how things worked. From a very young age, as far as I can remember I always loved opening some toys to see what was inside. My main target at the time was the mini-games, those Tetris games, who have more than 25-30 birthdays will understand hehe.

The access to cameras at that time was quite rare. There was also no one in the family who had some more advanced equipment to explore more.

When I was a little older I started to become interested in video cameras, most of becauseI was part of a basketball team from Porto Alegre called Germânia, (a group of great friends for life).

I liked to film training and games (lacking skills, tbh.) 😂 so I liked to film. After I tend to watch the games and practices so that I could improve some technics on my game. In this particular time, I consider this is how I started in photography.

This was without a doubt my first contact with a camera. Soon after moving to São Paulo (2009) and entering a modeling career, interests started to cross more and more.

FASHION INDUSTRY

I started to learn the placement of light, shadow, and the best angles to have a nice photo. Of course, just knowing this is not enough. Then I met a girl, who is my girlfriend until today 😍 who had a semi-professional camera. If I’m not mistaken an old Canon Rebel T5.(2010)

It was where I started to move more and explore the functions that the camera provided. At the point, accordingly to my knowledge, it was perfect.

To make a long story short, when I lived in China I had much more access to cameras. I bought my first full-frame: a Canon 6D and a lens also from Canon 50mm 1.8. This was my first ‘kit’ where I started to study more.

Remember when I said at the beginning of this post that each one has its own path? Yeah. I confess that working as a model helped me a lot. Because I had the opportunity to learn while working.

I started taking pictures of some friends to practice and the result is that they liked it a lot. So I took my first photography course with an emphasis on the fashion market. That in 2015.

However, due to working in many places, I always ended up traveling to different places and never had time to put into practice as I would like, so I ended up being a little aside. But my camera and lens were always with me.

Over time, I ended up opening a channel on YT Travel channel, where I edited videos and showed the places I visited.

100% PHOTOGRAPHY

It was in 2017 when I decided to stop working as a model that I managed to stay 100% in photography. I returned to Brazil with all my equipment. (there will be more post here about my equipment).

I focused a lot on education and learning from the best and according to my style of photos. there is no right and wrong. Each has its own style and throughout your journey you will find it. 👍

In 2018, I moved to New York where I improved and learned amazing things. I also learned about image editing and ‘‘ post-production ’in Los Angeles, at the renowned Retouching Academy. At that time, I was still considered insecure, because I knew the responsibility that we have when we are responsible for delivering quality material to the customer. Whoever he is. I think this is fundamental. Do not do things in any way or just by doing. Dedicate yourself and do the best you can ever. everything in its time.

NOWADAYS

From New York, I decided it would be a good choice to move to Milan in Italy (late 2018) and build my portfolio and work on my projects. it’s a very abrupt move from New York to Milan. the places and people are very different and this also reflects on the way I see business.
As a result of all this, here I am in Milan. Always learning new things and open to projects and ideas that may appear. I’m passionate about the moments that lenses can capture.

In conclusion, I currently have my studio where I receive models and clients. The market is well stopped due to the pandemic we are facing. But always looking positively to future opportunities.
